About this role

First assistants at ProCure are committed to revolutionizing the field of organ recovery in the United States, alongside our team of coordinators, thoracic surgeons, abdominal surgeons, perfusionists, and operations specialists. First assistants play a crucial role in the organ procurement process, working closely with the surgical team to ensure the safe and efficient retrieval of organs for transplantation.

Essential Functions

  • Assist with the surgical procedure to retrieve organs from donors, ensuring proper handling and preservation

  • Work closely with the surgical team to maintain a sterile environment and ensure the safety of all involved

  • Assist with benching and cannulation of organs for machine perfusion, with opportunities in ex-vivo organ preservation/rehabilitation

  • Provide support to the surgical team during the procurement process, including passing instruments and supplies, suturing incisions, and applying dressings

  • Communicate effectively with the transplant team and other medical professionals involved in the organ procurement process

Qualifications:

  • Certification as a surgical first assistant not required if training through experience

  • Previous experience working in organ procurement for transplantation preferred

  • Knowledge of surgical procedures related to organ retrieval

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment

  • Commitment to upholding the highest standards of patient care, safety, and professionalism
