About this role
The Abdominal Recovery Surgeons (both Full-time and Per-Diem roles) are responsible for providing on-demand abdominal organ recovery services for transplant programs and organ procurement organizations (OPOs) nationwide. We have multiple roles available across the country and are currently interviewing for per diem roles only; currently all full-time positions are filled. We expect more full-time positions to become available in 2024-2025, and preference for those positions will be given to active network surgeons.
Per-Diem Abdominal Recovery Surgeon Roles: Your schedule and availability is entirely self-determined and should not conflict with your clinical practice. There is no pressure to accept any case, and there is no minimum service obligation. Come join our team and increase organ utilization and improve transplant outcomes while being financially rewarded on your own schedule. Compensation is highly competitive and significantly higher than national cardiothoracic locum rates.
Full-Time Abdominal Recovery Surgeon Roles: Our full-time Abdominal Recovery Surgeon roles require not only the most skilled surgeons, but also surgeons with innovative mindsets that are committed to disrupting the status quo to build out better solutions. Essential Functions
Surgical dissection and recovery of abdominal organs (Liver, kidneys, pancreas) for transplantation and research
Intraoperative assessment of organ quality including preforming intraoperative liver biopsy
Cannulation of liver grafts onto various ex-vivo machine perfusion platforms (e.g., Organox; necessary training will be provided)
Communication with implanting surgeon regarding organ quality/anatomical issues
Education of residents/fellows/first assists in abdominal recovery in the role as paid assistants
Qualifications
MD/DO Degree and completion of an ASTS-accredited 2-year abdominal transplant surgery fellowship
Active state medical license with maintenance of AICN privileges
Facility and comfort with organ recovery from both brain-dead and donation after cardiac death (DCD) donors
Outstanding interpersonal communication skills; ability to work calmly under pressure; consummate professionalism in every aspect
